(WBAL/CNN) - A charter bus taking school children on a field trip to Washington, DC, crashed and turned over Monday morning near Cecil County, MD.
Maryland State Police said there were 26 children, three chaperones and a driver on the bus. The passengers were from the Philadelphia area.
The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. ET on I-95 South near Cecil County about 40 miles north of Baltimore. Traffic was delayed.
Police said a car was trying to pass the bus when it lost control, crossed over three traffic lanes and clipped the front of the bus.
The bus then lost control and hit a tree before rolling over in the street, blocking traffic.
At least two dozen people were injured. One adult and one child were in critical condition, according to Fox 29 TV. A teacher was taken to a trauma center in Baltimore, Superintendent William Hite said.
