ELK GROVE, CA – (KTXL/CNN) - A California pre-teen knows his way around a music room.

At age 12, Neil Nayyar can play a historic number of instruments - from the saxophone to the saraswati veena (a stringed instrument from India) and 42 other instruments.

A cacophony of sounds that all find harmony in Neil’s talent, and playing music relaxes him.

The virtuoso practices six hours a day, and can play the 44 flutes and drums, and other sound machines that have helped earn him the Assist Foundation's world record for being the youngest person to play so many different instruments.

This all started with the Mozart that mom and dad played for their now seventh grader when he was in the womb.

"I read somewhere in a book that if you give the sound to the womb, that's going to impact his soul and heart," said his father, Rajan Nayyar.

After showing no interest in music in his first four years, Neil struck an impressive beat in a free drum class when he was 5-years-old.

"When he hit first beat everybody was shocked in the classroom," Rajan Nayyar said.

Neil doesn’t plan on stopping an activity that brings him joy.

"I feel like I have more expression -more smiley face,” he said.
