Bomb-like fireworks bundle tossed from car

AMBRIDGE, PA (KDKA/CNN) - Five commercial grade fireworks duct-taped together were thrown from a moving car in Pennsylvania.

Part of a street was shut down and dozens of homes nearby had to be evacuated.

George Kutcher saw it all unfold.

"The car came up the street, slowed down and came to a stop. The driver lit it and dropped it out the window and just took off up the street very slowly and left the neighborhood," Kutcher said.

Army veteran John Brooks jumped into action.

"I live right here so I walked down and saw the smoke so I walked up. Cars were flying by so I just moved it over off the side," Brooks said.

The bomb squad used robots to safely remove the fireworks.

Customers of Firehouse Lounge on the corner of the street said the man suspected of leaving the fireworks, has threatened the bar before.

"I went to school with him, and he's a nut case.  He's been thrown out of this bar. He came in one time, had a gun, put the gun on the bar and threw a bunch of bullets on the bar," customer Brian Crago said.

Police believed the suspect may be storing more fireworks in his mother's basement.
