CHATHAM, MA (WFXT/CNN) – A decomposing body was discovered in a closed compartment aboard a U.S. Coast Guard boat in Massachusetts.

The Chatham Police Department said Coast Guard personnel found the human remains on the retired vessel Sunday night.

Right now, foul play is not suspected and an investigation is under way. The Massachusetts State Police is also involved with the matter.

The local medical examiner's office is working to identify the body. However, family members of Matt Amsler are posting on social media that the body is the 24-year-old who went missing in October.

A GoFundMe post claims that Amsler sought shelter from a storm in the boat and ran out of oxygen.

Officials have not confirmed that the body is Amsler’s nor the cause of death.

The 44-foot boat was on display at the Coast Guard Station Chatham and not in the water.
