MAYBROOK, NJ (News 12/CNN) - Dramatic new body cam footage shows the moments a New Jersey officer was shot and a suspect turned the gun on himself.
The body cam video shows the intense final two minutes and 30 seconds of Tuesday's confrontation between 28-year-old Anthony Bostick and Maybrook Police. "He would not show his hands, he would not comply,” said David Hoovler, Orange County District Attorney, of the suspect.
Cops were there after a domestic dispute, attempting to remove him from a third-floor apartment on Abby Avenue. Maybrook Police Chief Arnold "Butch" Amthor was on the scene. He's on the right side in the video.
The video shows Bostick firing upon police. The 51-year-old chief slumps to the ground after taking a bullet to the shoulder. As officers tended to their injured chief, another shot rings out, a self-inflicted gunshot wound left Bostick dead.
Amthor is expected to make a full recovery. "It appears based on the preliminary information we have with the video and what we saw at the scene, that the police acted reasonably and justifiably,” Hoovler said.
Hoovler says the complete video along with an independent report will be made public once the investigation is complete.
