MIAMI (WPLG/CNN) - A bird crashed through the front of a plane on Tuesday.
The sudden strike lead to a scare in the air for dozens of passengers on the American Airlines flight from Mexico City to Miami International Airport.
Upon the plane's landing, people noticed its body wedged in the nose of the plane, moving around as the wind blew.
The bird's collision with the aircraft resulted in its death and some visible damage to the plane.
The airline said the flight landed safely with no injuries to passengers, and the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection.
Experts and flight enthusiasts said it was an unusual sight despite that bird strikes are fairly common.
The 2016 study by the Federal Aviation Administration shows more than 160,000 strikes reported in the U.S. from 1990 to 2015, with 62 percent of them occurring during the day.
A majority of bird strikes occurred during landing.
