BARBUDA (CNN) - Irma is currently spreading westward over parts of Cuba and the central Bahamas as a category five storm, after leaving a trail of destruction in the Caribbean.

Pictures from Barbuda show exactly what Irma is capable of doing.

The island is barely habitable, with 90 percent of all structures damaged.

At least 24 people were killed as Irma pounded the northern Caribbean.

The island was a Caribbean getaway surrounded by turquoise water.

Now it is demolished, left desolate and unrecognizable by Hurricane Irma.

It is a shocking view, flying onto the island of Barbuda.

Gerald Teague said that hurricanes were a way of life there, but not this one.

"This is the worst one I've ever seen," Teague said.

It could get worse, as the hurricane-ravaged island braces for Category 4 Hurricane Jose.

Those who braved Irma, now arrive in Antigua, evacuated to escape a second major hit.

Elvis Burton is determined to protect the place he's called home for 12 years, at least what's left of it.

He evacuated, but returned to find a home no longer livable, savaged by nature.

"It's my home. I have to try to save it," Burton said.

Even more are determined to save lives, get people out of Barbuda and save the people who seem to have lost it all.

"This is like a war zone, like something just blew up," Burton said.

This is the wrath of Irma, now on the move.

Irma has shown her strength, and it’s the reason so many fear what is heading to Florida.
