BREWERTON, NY (Spectrum News/CNN) - Christopher Columbus' place in history comes with some controversy, and it popped up this week in upstate New York.
The group "Neighbors of the Onandaga Nation" hung a banner that said "Columbus didn't discover anything. 1,000s of native nations were already here."
The sign was placed on a bridge so it could be seen by two replicas of the ships Columbus sailed as they came into New York Wednesday.
The group said they hope their banner educates people about U.S. history.
The ships will be docked outside a museum in Oswego this weekend.
