(CNN) - A Texas hospital says a baby boy born there is the first in the U.S. to be birthed from a mother who received a uterus transplant.
Baylor University Medical Center announced the birth over the weekend.
It's unclear when the birth happened, and the child's family is requesting privacy at this time.
The hospital says the mother received the transplant as part of a clinical trial to study new infertility treatment options for women who don't have a functioning uterus.
The world's first baby born from a transplanted uterus happened in Sweden back in 2014.
