LINCOLN COUNTY, OK (KFOR/CNN) - The Lincoln County Sheriff said a 10-year-old boy with autism shot his eight-year-old sister with a 22-magnum rifle.
The incident occurred after the siblings used a key to get into their father's gun safe.
It happened Friday afternoon at this home four miles north of Stroud, OK.
Authorities said the mother drove her daughter to the hospital in Cushing, OK. She was shot in the hand and upper arm.
They couldn't stop the bleeding so she was airlifted to a Tulsa Hospital for surgery.
The boy told investigators he was aiming at the door.
The Department of Homeland Security is also investigating the matter.
The boy was diagnosed a few years ago with autism, according to local media.
