(CNN) – The private lawyer for Jeff Session said the U.S. attorney general is no longer under investigation for perjury regarding statements made at his Senate confirmation hearing.
Attorney Chuck Cooper’s remarks came after ABC News reported that now-dismissed FBI official Andrew McCabe oversaw a perjury probe against Sessions.
A source close to Sessions said he was not aware of any perjury probe when he dismissed McCabe last week.
CNN reported in January that Sessions was questioned by special counsel Robert Mueller as part of the Russia investigation.
Session has said he did not lie under oath during his confirmation hearing, nor did he mislead senators with his testimony.
A spokesman for McCabe declined comment on the ABC News story.
