(CNN) - Apple announced Friday that it will introduce hundreds of new emojis in next week's iOS update.
The emojis are the company's interpretation of symbols approved this year by the Unicode Consortium.
Apple's new batch will include more expressive smiley faces, mythical creatures and gender-neutral options.
Apple previewed more than two dozen emojis, including a hedgehog, a giraffe, and an angry emoji face with explicit characters blocking the mouth.
The tech giant has been stepping up efforts to include more diverse options recently, as have other companies.
Facebook released new family emojis earlier this year with a range of skin tones and family makeups.
