Amazon patent outlines drone delivery plan

(CNN) - Amazon appears to be hinting at the future of its planned drone deliveries.

The company filed a patent for drone "beehive" towers in 2015, and the U.S Patent and Trademark Office published it last week.

Amazon said the towers would be used as fulfillment centers for its drones to take off and land.

The towers would also accept traditional truck deliveries and allow customers to pick up items. Such fulfillment centers would be placed in cities that have high rises in urban areas.

It's unclear if these towers will actually become a reality.
