Affidavit: East Texas couple locked victim in dog kennel; woman physically abused her

Officers with the Malakoff Police Department arrested a couple in connection allegations that they locked an elderly relative of the woman in a dog kennel and starved her.

The woman also allegedly kicked the victim and forced her to walk on broken glass.

Leonnia Darlene Anderson Castillo, 47, of Log Cabin, is still being held in the Henderson County Jail on a first-degree felony injury to the elderly charge. Her bond amount has been set at $50,000.

Tommy Lee Anderson, 49, of Malakoff, was booked into the Henderson County Jail on a felony unlawful restraint exposing to serious bodily injury charge on Aug. 25, and he was released from the jail on Aug. 27 after he posted bail on a $15,000 bond amount.

According to the arrest affidavit, a Malakoff police officer was approached by a 70-year-old woman who told him that she had been assaulted at a home on Wesley Street in Malakoff. The victim told police that she had been staying with a female relative and the relative’s boyfriend.

The woman told the Malakoff PD officer that Castillo and Anderson coerced her into buying a dog kennel, the affidavit stated. 

Then the couple allegedly forced the victim to stay outside in the heat until she threw up. At that point, she was locked in the dog kennel and starved, the affidavit stated.

The victim also told police that Castillo tried to drown her in a bathtub, the affidavit stated.

In addition, the victim claimed that Castillo kicked her in the crotch, and held her to the ground with her knee, causing a bruise on her breast, the affidavit stated.

“[The victim] also stated that she was stripped naked down to her panties and forced to walk on glass that Castillo broke by throwing at her,” the affidavit stated.

According to the affidavit, the victim also told police that Castillo and Anderson kept her debit card and withdrew her disability money. The couple also allegedly refused to buy food for the victim.

“She stated that they would yell at her and not let her drink or eat,” the affidavit stated.

The victim said relatives tried to come and get her from the residence on Wesley Street, but Castillo wouldn’t let them. 

According to the affidavit, the alleged abuse occurred between Jan. 5 and Aug. 22. On Aug. 22, relatives were finally able to pick the victim up, and they took her to Mesquite.

While the victim was talking to the MPD officer, he noticed that she had a bruised left eye, numerous red, circular sores on her back, and cuts on her feet. She also had a what looked like a hand print on her left arm, the affidavit stated.
