CHILHOWEE, MO (KSHB/CNN) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says they've captured accused cop killer Ian James McCarthy.
Investigators say he killed 37-year old officer Gary Michael during a traffic stop on Sunday about 10:45 p.m. Michael died from a gunshot wound. McCarthy drove away but shortly after that crashed his SUV and fled on foot.
He was reportedly found walking down the middle of the road near U Highway and Highway 7 near Urich, MO, which is about 20 minutes northwest of Clinton.
Michael had been on the force less than a year. McCarthy has been charged with first-degree murder and felony armed criminal action.
