NEW YORK (AP) — World and European champion Spain will play an exhibition game on June 11 at Yankee Stadium, which also will host a postseason friendly between Manchester City and Chelsea on May 25.
Spain, which leads second-place France by one point in Group I of European qualifying for next year's World Cup, does not play another qualifier until Sept. 6 at Finland but will get getting ready for the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Ireland, which hosts the Faeroe Islands in a qualifier on June 7, is fourth in Group C, eight points back of Germany and trailing Austria and Sweden on goal difference.
Manchester City also plays Chelsea on May 23 at Busch Stadium in in St. Louis.
City has toured North America in two of the last three years in an attempt to boost its profile in the region.
The new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009 and staged its first two soccer matches last summer, when Chelsea tied Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 and Real Madrid defeated AC Milan 5-1.
