TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - On Friday night, two of the best teams in GISA football will go head to head in South Georgia. Valwood and Brookwood are AAA Region III members, and both are looking to get off on the right foot.
Valwood enters the match-up 3-2, while Brookwood is 4-1 on the year. The Valiants haven't fallen victim to the warriors since 2010, but the good news for Coach Shane Boggs and the Brookwood Warriors? Both of the last two meetings were settled by a combined 7 points.
"Two of the last three years we've basically played for the Region Championship," said Boggs. "It's always going to be a game that's huge in terms of qualifying for the playoffs, but maybe secondly trying to qualify for home games."
Valwood Head Coach Ashley Henderson admits there's a lot of respect between the two programs.
"To me they look the same to me as they've looked in the past," he said. "They may have graduated a couple kids but man they have some play makers up there that make it hard to sleep at night."
While he's looking to keep their win streak alive, he knows it won't be easy.
"We're trying to concentrate on taking it one game at a time," he said. "This is the most important game of the season right now."
"The real season starts right now," added Boggs. "We're 4-1, but that doesn't mean anything. These four Region games will ultimately be what our team will be remembered by."
Valwood at Brookwood kicks off Friday night in Thomasville at 7:30 p.m.
