TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Rickards High and Leon had two very different results last week. The Raiders won on the road, while Leon lost a close one at home. Now the two are facing off with each other in week two, and both are looking to get better.
A City Championship is something both of these squads are chasing. Rickards is looking for the three-peat, while Leon is looking to play spoiler Friday night. Lions head coach Garrett Jahn notes to beat Rickards, it's not going to be easy, they have talent up and down their roster.
"We have to eliminate as many big plays as we can," he said of a key in beating the Raiders." If we're going to give up a couple, at least make them earn every other thing, and we have to score some points on offense."
Raiders head coach Quintin Lewis said the Leon offense is a point of concern for them.
"That quarterback has a tremendously strong arm. He's a very accurate guy," said Lewis of Leon slinger John Carey.
Both coaches have worked on playing cleaner football, as penalties were especially an issue for Rickards.
"We have to earn our city back and make sure everybody knows that we should be respected in football," said Lewis. The Raiders were beat by Northwestern at home in the preseason before beating North Marion on the road in week one. "Friday night will be a game where we start that."
"I'm more concerned with Leon and us getting better and correcting some of the mistakes we made last week," said Jahn, who said they have to work on cutting down the miscues. "We need to correct some things first before we really worry about what they have."
Rickards and Leon kick off at 7:00 on Friday at Gene Cox Stadium.
