MOULTRIE, Ga. (WTXL) - High schools in the state of Georgia kick off week two of competition this week, and the Colquitt County Packers, not taking any days off, as they host perennial power Plant out of Tampa.
Colquitt opened up the season with a beat down over North Gwinnett at the Corky Kell Classic, an event that features some of Georgia's, and the nation's top teams.
Plant is a four time Florida State Champion, and head coach Rush Propst said the kids know Plant is a good club. They have several college prospects, and Propst said this game will gear up the Pack for the games that really matter, those AAA Region 1 contests in just a few short weeks.
"It's our home opener, it's a very good team, it's National recognition for us, it's why you play the game," said Propst at practice this week. "It's why you play the out of state games. They may not be as highly ranked as what Hoover was when they came here last year. They still are in the buzz. When people talk about Tampa Plant, people know where Tampa Plant is. They know the type of players they have. For us, we think it's a big measuring stick."
The Plant vs. Colquitt County game kicks off at 7:30 in Moultrie.
