TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's week two of the high school football season, and the race for Tallahassee bragging rights begins this week. The Rickards Raiders look to repeat as city champs, and it all starts Friday night against Leon.
The Lions, hoping to start off play against their city foes strong as well. They're riding a lot of momentum into the match-up, having won the 600th program win last week. The Raiders on the other hand, fell at Madison County in was head coach Quintin Lewis called a reality check for his program.
A win this week is good for either program, but to come out on top, defense will have to be at a premium.
"Anytime you play them, you're going to have to be ready for a multi talented, multi faceted offense," said Leon head coach Tim Cokely of facing Rickards. "We're going to have to really play on our feet well, we're going to have to play disciplined football, we're going to have to be disciplined in our lanes and in our assignments so that we can stop their high powered offense."
"We're just going to go out and play what we call Raider football and just do a better job of it this week," said Lewis. "We still played pretty good against Madison, we just didn't make the key plays in key moments, and that's what we have to do to play Leon."
The Leon vs. Rickards showdown is slated for 7:00 at Gene Cox Stadium.
