TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Sometimes a "Game of the Week" sticks out, be it a critical District game, maybe a rivalry, or maybe they're two undefeated teams.
Godby and Rickards fits all three categories, as Friday night, undefeated Rickards hosts the undefeated Godby Cougars.
It's also a match-up of top ten teams, as 5-0 Rickards is ranked 3rd in Class 5A, and the 6-0 Cougars come in 6th. Rickards head coach Quintin Lewis admits there is no downplaying the hype of this game, it's a big one, and everyone knows it.
"Whether it's football, basketball, baseball, any men or women's sport, us and Godby is a pretty intense environment," he said. "They have a chance to win a District Championship right now and City Championship at the same time. Our objective is to stop that from happening and come out with a victory."
Godby can seal up the 5A District 2 Championship with a win over the Raiders, and that's what head coach Corey Fuller wants.
"People have to do their job every play. That's what we put on our kids, the pressure of doing our job every play," he said of what it will take to get there. "We know they have great players, they have great skill players, good line play."
The Raiders feature a dual threat quarterback in Marcus Riley, while Godby's defense is what's bothered people all season.
"We're going to come out and give them the best shot they have," said Lewis. "They're a very good team, one of the better teams in the state of Florida and we know we have a big task ahead of us."
Fuller notes that if Godby goes out and worries about playing Godby football, he feels they'll be just fine.
"If I get myself in the best shape as a player, take all my notes, watch all my video that I'm supposed to watch on my opponent, there's nothing to worry about."
Friday's game kicks off at 7:00 at Gene Cox Stadium. Gates open at 5:00.
