Quincy, FL (WTXL) -- A young Panthers football team knows last year's 3-7 season is behind them. Coaches such as defensive coordinator Stan Nealy teach football from the ground up without a middle school or JV football team. It's all about turning their young men into a football family that refuses to quit.
"The thing that really impresses me is that these guys know that we don't get alot at Gadsden County at West Gadsden, but what we get we work with and we are going to continue to work," Nealy said. "Even when everybody else is rested, we are working because we are communicating with each other."
Nealy views all of his players as part of his family for life and tries to instill in them the importance of hard work.
"I grew up in an environment where I know," Nealy said. "You don't get anything. You have to earn it and that's what we are going to do this year. We are going to earn everything we do."
West Gadsden lost three seniors from last season. All of them were linebackers. However, Nealy replaced them with new starters that are over six feet tall and weight at least 230 pounds. He believes they have a nice sized team to be playing in 1A football.
"When you leave the field with us, these guys are going to give you everything they got," Nealy said.
Nealy is confident they can carry the success they experienced during spring football and summer workouts into the 2016 season. West Gadsden opens the year against Jefferson County on August 26th.
