VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - It's preseason no more for private schools in Georgia. The Valwood Valiants kick off the regular season Saturday the 12th in Montgomery, Alabama.

After falling in the State Semifinals a season ago, this Valwood squad is ready to get things going. Valwood is all about experience in 2017, as they have sixteen starters back, five of which are three year starters.

As a team in general, head coach Ashley Henderson notes they are light years ahead of where they were last season. As far as last year goes? Henderson notes they haven't dwelled on it too much, they are just ready to go out, play some football, and let the chips fall where they may.

"It's just a matter of now you know, expectations have gotten a lot of people fired and a lot of people beat, so we have to go out and we have to make things happen" he said. "We have to make plays, we have to play together and everything like that. Again, that's where there's the newness of the season. We wonder how good are we going to be? Are we going to play together? Are we going to mesh well? Is this offensive line going to be better? Things like that."

The Valiants first home game of the season is August the 18th against Memorial Day.
