Thomasville, GA (WTXL) -- A (6-5) record and a trip to the playoffs still did not seem like enough for the Yellow Jackets last season. That's because Thomas County Central lost three of its last four games by seven points or less including a first round loss to Jonesboro.
"What we have been doing out here everyday is we are competing," head coach Bill Shaver said. "We will compete in a third down type situation every single day and we kind of keep score and we go over what the score was at the end of practice. So we just try to make everyday a competition."
The Yellow Jackets return seven starters on each side of the ball, but Shaver also brought in several new coaches to give his players some new voices to learn from. He is emphasizing defense this preseason camp.
" We needed to play better defense," Shaver said. In our eleven games, I say we played pretty good defense in about four of them. On our losses we did not make a play when we needed to make a play."
On offense the Yellow jackets have to replace two offensive lineman and a tight end that started for three seasons. Thomas County Central begins the season against Worth County on August 19th.
