THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - The Thomas County Central Yellowjackets finished 8-4 last season, and while they lost quite a few players from that squad, Central is ready to hit the field in 2017.
Head coach Bill Shaver notes they'll be young this year, with several guys to replace. The big name? Kelias Williams, who was an All-State quarterback last season, but Shaver said they've been working guys all summer to take over that role.
On the defensive side of the ball, look for new faces on the secondary and on the line, but coach notes every year, losing players is something you deal with.
"Kids are a whole lot more resilient than coaches," he laughed. "Coaches are more hungry to make a little bit longer run, kids bounce back real, real quick. Every year is different, you have a different set of leaders, different set of guys that have to step up, so they're excited abotut a chance. Some kids that didn't play last year got to step in this year. We've kind of been not so lucky in the last several years with some health from the key players, so we hope the health bug will stay with us this year."
The Jackets kick off the regular season at Worth County of the 18th.
