TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Last season, the John Paul II football team had a season for the record books. They went 6-4, cruising to their first winning season in school history, but if you ask anyone, there's still work to be done.

John Paul II, now called Saint John Paul II, but still the Panthers, and they still remember falling just short of winning the North Florida Football Conference title last season. There's still a lot of excitement in the air, and a lot of goals have been set.

"The kids know what we want now," said second year coach Cedric Jones of having a year under his belt. "They know what we want offensively and defensively and now we can show them everything else."

Jones added one of the main things this team has been working on is consistency, but also to be more aggressive, something he felt cost them that title last year.

"It's small ball, so we always have an issue with offensive linemen," he said of one of the team's downfalls. "We hope that the tempo and creating more tempo inside of our offensive scheme, we hope creating more tempo will alleviate that weakness that we have."

Saint John Paul II opens up the season August 26th in Gainesville against St. Francis Catholic.
