PELHAM, Ga. (WTXL) - The Pelham Hornets are coming off a first round appearance in the AA playoffs, and head coach Dondrial Pinkins said he has a great group of kids coming back to get the Hornets back in the postseason.
He said while he really likes his squad's work ethic, they do have some things the need to work on. First order of business? Replacing their quarterback, and a few guys on the offensive line. Defensively, Pinkins notes they'll have to replace several starters, but he added they have several kids who played quality minutes on varsity last year to fill in those holes.
The biggest obstacle for Pelham? A tough A-1 schedule. Every game but one means something, and Pinkins knows they have to bring their A game.
"When you look at the overall Region, it's not going to be a cakewalk," he said. "It may come down again to the end of the year, the last week of the regular season deciding who wins that Region title."
The best way for Pelham to succeed, he notes, is staying healthy.
"Usually, when you look at a schedule towards the end of the year, the team with the most guys healthy is usually the teams that are playing the best football."
Pinkins and the Hornets open up the season with their only non-Region game of the year against Albany on August 19th.
