PELHAM, Ga. (WTXL) - High school football teams in Georgia are two weeks into fall camp. The Pelham Hornets are coming off a 9-2 season, one where they won a Region Championship, but fell in first round playoff action.
The Region title was the first for Pelham's football team since 2001, and even more impressive? That was all done with a freshman quarterback. Kendrick Patterson threw for over 2100 yards and 25 scores in his debut, so the have him back this season is a bonus for the Hornets.
Pelham lost just ten seniors from last year's team, and head coach Dondrial Pinkins is excited about the possibilities.
"The good point of this team I think is going to be speed, and leadership from our younger guys," he said. "We don't have a big senior class, we're going to be young again this year, but a lot of those guys played significant reps last year, and we're looking for them to come out and lead this team and hopefully be great for the next few years and build that tradition and keep it going as we build at Pelham."
The Hornets open the regular season on the 18th against Westover.
