QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Robert F. Munroe football team may be small in numbers, but after a big first win last season, they're motivated to have that feeling again.
Head coach Rodell Thomas is entering his second season as head coach of the Bobcats, who won their first game in two seasons last year. That win is a big deal for a program that had less than twenty athletes last season.
"That win last year took my guys, they thought they'd won the State Championship on that win!" laughed Thomas. "That's going to carry us with some momentum into this year. "
Thomas said they're battling low numbers again, and a young quarterback, but after graduating just one senior, there's a lot of confidence heading into this year.
"We got better at the end," he said. "We started our games real slow. We were playing catch-up ball every game. If we can just hold on until the fourth quarter, play good defense, and that's what we're really going to be concerned with is good defense, having teams not score on us, I think we'll be okay."
Munroe takes on Maclay on August 19th in preseason action. They open up the regular season against St. Joseph Academy at home on August 26th.
