VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - In south Georgia, the Lowndes Vikings have quite the kickoff to the 2016 season- they take on rival Valdosta in the Winnersville Classic.
The two foes, not in the same Region anymore in the GHSA, hence the early Classic. It'll be a good measuring stick for the Vikings, who were 6-5 last season and fell in the first round of the play-offs.
They will have to replace several standouts this season, but they're up to the task. The biggest job? Improving the offense, and head coach Randy McPherson said junior quarterback Michael Barrett will be a big part in getting that done.
"He worked so hard and he's a competitor," said McPherson of his quarterback. "He's prepared himself, and we are going to turn him loose and let him play. We have to be able to score points in big games. That's something we couldn't do last year."
The Winnersville Classic kicks off at 8:00 on August 19th.
