TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - While some high school programs have questions surrounding their roster, that's not the case at Leon High School. The Lions have a lot of veterans coming back, and they're ready to get their 101st season of football underway.

Leon will get their 600th win at some point this season, and head coach Tim Cokely said there's a definite sense of pride and tradition around the locker room.

The Lions are also looking to make a statement. They ended up in a three way District Playoff last season, falling just short of making the postseason.

"You have to play until the last play," said Cokely on how his team plans on getting it done this year. "You have to stay healthy and things like that. I think that it's going to more than anything come down to the fact that we have a returning quarterback who has experience and really knows what we want to do."

Along with their quarterback, the Lions return almost their entire defense, and several skill players on offense, and that experience is unparalleled.

"We started slow offensively last year and that was part of it," said Cokely. "So that, and a good returning defense, I think that helps people play well at the end of games, when you have good players."

Leon takes on Wakulla in preseason action August 19th.
