Tallahassee, Fla (WTXL) -- After playing in the state title game two years ago, Godby missed the postseason entirely in 2015. Godby head coach Todd Lanter believes they don't need to do anything differently. They just need to play better.
"The kids that play at Godby, they understand the tradition that Godby High School has." Lanter said. "They understand what football means here. It's a real sore spot. We have a chip on our shoulders heading into this year."
To simulate a school year schedule, Lanter had his players practicing during the regular schools hours from 8am until 2pm. He is impressed with summer participation and intensity of his 2016 Cougars.
"We're going to make these guys stronger, and faster, and and better in every way," Lanter said.
To return to the playoffs, they need to replace Darius Bradwell at quarterback. Juniors ReSean McKay and Kevin Shuler are competing to be the new starter for Godby. Regardless, with a difficult district, they need to be sharp defensively.
"Defensively we have to make tackles," Lanter said. "You have to stop people. That's what it boils down to. We have to stop Rickards and we have to stop Wakulla. They are great football programs that have great coaches."
