TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The Godby Cougars are a name this is recognizable throughout the state. They've won four State Championships, and been runner-up twice. After missing the postseason the past two years, they are ready to get back to those winning ways.
The Cougars are under new leadership this fall, as Corey Fuller took over the reins in the spring. Fuller said he was happy with his team's work ethic this summer, and mentioned it's carried over to camp so far.
The have a speedy back in Tony Street, who rushed for over 2000 yards at East Gadsden last year, and this defense? Stacked. The transfer of defensive studs Trey and Kyler Laing from Leon already adds to four star safety Cortez Andrews.
So a lot of standouts ready to play for Godby, but coach insists there is much more to be done.
"Them guys are no good. That's all paper stuff, can't get caught up in that," he said of the hype around the team. "We have too many guys thinking it's about them, I have to work them to team, team, team, team, team. We have to work on us. We just have to work on us. If we play like we play, can't nobody beat us. At the end of the day, that's my philosophy. If we play like we're capable of playing, can't nobody beat us."
The Cougars take on Nature Coast at the Johnathan Ferrell Kick-off Classic slated for August the 19th in Tallahassee.
