#WTXLFNF Camp Chat: Gadsden County Jaguars

Posted

HAVANA, Fl. (WTXL) - This spring, Gadsden County schools voted to merge East and West Gadsden High Schools. The new school? Gadsden County High. The coach? West Gadsden's Joey Striplin.

Striplin said the merger has actually worked out really well. If East needed a position filled, West had the guy to do it. The puzzle pieces are fitting together nicely, and a big piece to that puzzle? Quarterback Dentarrius Yon, who was the Class 1A Player of the Year at West Gadsden last season, throwing for over 3000 yards.

"These guys have played with each other in the youth league, so it really was an easy transition," said Striplin. "With the one school coming together, it's more funding for our school. Everything goes into one county. It's great t have a county high school like the other county high schools around here. The kids are feeling the effects with stuff they're able to do. Right when they started spring and workouts, competition in the summer is been an easy transition."

The Jaguards take on Suwannee at home on the 18th in preseason action. They travel to Leon to open the regular season on the 24th.
