TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida High Seminole football team just missed the playoffs last season, and while they'll have to rebuild to make the postseason this year, it's a challenge the Noles are willing to embrace.
Florida High isn't used to being on the outside looking in, as last year was just the second time in 12 seasons they'd missed the playoffs. Head coach Jarrod Hickman noted they've had to shift a lot of players around in the off season, but he said this squad is extremely hungry and has put in a lot of hard work.
"Confidence for this team is probably the one thing we want to get going," he said. "I know these guys believe in themselves. They know they put in the work, but we still want to find that success early on with them being in the new spots."
The Seminoles have to place quarterback Isiah Hill, as well as leading receiver Karenz Stephens. Hickman noted they do return seven starts on offense and five on defense, albeit most of those starters are in new positions.
"I think it's essential for us to get some momentum going and get off to a good start," he said of his team finding success. "We have to try to stay as healthy as we possibly can."
Florida High takes on Port St. Joe in preseason action August 19th. They open up the regular season at home against Panama City Arnold.
