GRAMBLING, La. (Seminoles.com) – Playing at a school where both her parents starred, redshirt senior guard Imani Wright made the most of her trip back to Louisiana.
With several family and friends in attendance, Wright knocked down a career-high six 3-point field goals in a 96-53 rout over Grambling State on Sunday night. The six triples fall one short of the individual school record of seven held by three different players.
“This was very special to bring Imani back to a place where both her parents excelled at,” FSU head coach Sue Semrau said. “We wanted to make it a good trip for her, and she really delivered with a great performance tonight.”
Wright led six Seminoles in double figures with 22 points (8-of-23). Her father, Larry Wright, was one of the top players in the country while playing basketball at Grambling. He went on to enjoy a 12-year professional career which included a 1978 NBA Championship with the Washington Bullets.
Wright’s mother, Bridgette Forte-Thomas, played a couple years at the University of Houston before also having a strong career when she transferred to Grambling.
The Seminoles return for a two-game homestand beginning on Friday, Nov. 24, against Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
POST-GAME NOTES:
• Redshirt senior guard AJ Alix delivered her first double-double as a Seminole with 10 points and 11 assists. The 11 assists are the most she has ever recorded as a collegiate athlete.
• FSU out-scored Grambling State 26-6 in the third quarter. The Noles have out-scored opponents 110-37 in the third quarter this season.
• FSU out-scored Grambling State 47-16 in the second half.
• Senior forward Shakayla Thomas finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. The other double-figure scorers in addition to Wright, Alix and Thomas include Chatrice White (11) and Nausia Woolfolk (10).
• FSU finished with six players in double figures – the 14th time it has had six players reach double-digit points.
• The Seminoles improve to 2-0 all-time against Grambling State. Sunday was FSU’s first visit to a SWAC school.
• FSU improves to 4-0 for the ninth time under head coach Sue Semrau and the first time since the 2014-15 season.
• FSU’s 49 points at halftime marked its most through the first two periods this season.
• Florida State’s 27-20 lead through the first quarter was its most points it scored in the opening period this season.
