QUINCY, Fl. (WTXL) - This spring, the West Gadsden Panthers won their first State Championship in boys basketball. The title though was bittersweet, as West Gadsden closed after this school year to merge with East Gadsden to make one high school in Gadsden County.
The pride for this team? Still the same, and on Friday night, the community came together to honor this Panther squad. The team finally got their State Championship rings, and the ceremony also recognized several of the Panthers for their achievements this season.
Andrew Reddick was named MVP, and while it took a lot to get to this point, this season and this team won't be forgotten anytime soon.
"We rebounded very well, and at the end we went on an eleven game winning streak," said head coach Andrew Moten. "I mean that is just a testament to the hard work these young men put into it."
"Hardwork, dedication, no days off, hills, practices, early morning practice at eight," added Reddick as to how they reached the pinnacle this season. "Do what it takes."
Moten will coach boys basketball at the new consolidated Gadsden County High School.
