GREENSBORO, Fla. (WTXL) - Last week, the West Gadsden boys basketball team captured the Class 1A State Championship. It's the school's first State title in boys hoops, and the county's first in almost four decades.
Thursday was pretty much "West Gadsden Day" in Gadsden County, as the school celebrated with a pep rally in the morning at the high school, and ended the day with a parade around downtown Greensboro.
"People here don't have much to cheer about. I think we gave them something to cheer about," said head coach Andrew Moten on the sense of community pride. "This basketball team has been the mainstay that gave them hope for the last seven years. We got there a couple of times, but we weren't able to finish the deal. It's just gratifying to see us go down and finish the deal and see us come back home with a Championship."
The celebrating continues Friday night, as there will be a Gala at the National Guard Armory in Quincy starting at 7:30 pm where the team will also be recognized.
