TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - At Chiles High School, Monday was a big day for eight student athletes. Three athletes chose to stay local, while two of the more decorated runners in Leon County history are headed north.

Ana Wallace is Vanderbilt bound. Wallace won the 3A State Cross Country title this year, and Michael Phillips, who went back to back in Cross Country and won the 1600 and 3200 meter titles this year, is headed to Syracuse.

"Everything that I've done, it was for college," said Phillips, who is hoping his success translates to the next level. "I wanted to go to college. It was my all time goal. Everything now, this year was kind of a bonus. I was already going to college. Everything from here on out was a bonus so it was awesome."

"It's scary, exciting, so many different things at once!" laughed Wallace of signing to Vanderbilt. "I'm just excited to start something new in a different place, but I'm going to miss everyone here so much. They've been so good to me all the year."
