TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the second consecutive summer, Florida State rising senior Nicole Walch will represent the top US Collegiate National Team as an outside hitter. The Stuart, Fla. native was one of 12 players selected to represent Team USA at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea from July 2-12.
“This will be one of the greatest opportunities I will have in my volleyball career,” Walch said. “It means so much to me to be able to represent both Florida State and my country at an international event of this magnitude. I can’t wait for this summer.”
A 2014 AVCA All-America second team selection behind 487 kills (3.99 per set), Walch will be one of three rising seniors on the team after earning her spot following the open tryouts held in Colorado Springs in February.
Walch is familiar to the national team setting after competing on the US National Team – China Tour in the summer of 2014. This will be her first career World University Games and fourth stint with a US National Team.
I'm extremely proud of Nicole,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “She has worked incredibly hard during her volleyball career and has always played with a lot of passion. She absolutely loves to compete and hates to lose. She has been selected as one of the top outside hitters in the country and I know she will represent Florida State and the USA National Team very well.”
The national team announcement will continue this week, as USA Volleyball will post the another 12-member team to tour China in addition to a 36-member program that will take place in New Orleans this summer.
