VALDOSTA, Ga. - On the heels of his second double-double effort of the 2014-15 season, Valdosta State forward James Spencer was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.
Spencer earned the honor after connecting on half of his attempts from the field against the Christian Brothers Bucs on Saturday night at the Complex. The 10-of-20 shooting performance and 3-of-4 effort from the free throw line resulted in 23 points for the Blazer senior, which complemented a dominant performance on the glass that included 10 rebounds.
In addition to the double-double, Spencer added two assists, two blocks, and two steals over the course of 41 minutes played. He is currently averaging 13.9 points per game, which places him among the top 15 scorers in the GSC, while his average of 7.1 rebounds per game places him 10th in the league.
