TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  –The 16th-ranked Florida State indoor volleyball team closed out the 2013 regular season with a 3-0 win over Georgia Tech on Friday. The Seminoles move to 24-7, 17-3, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 12-12, 6-14.

“I thought the team played well again today,” head coach Chris Poole said. “We played the first two sets very clean and really limited our mistakes and hopefully that’s something we can build on going into the NCAA Tournament.”

Before the match started, eyes were on the duel taking place in Durham, N.C. between No. 15 Duke and No. 14 North Carolina. If the Tar Heels won the contest, it would have forced a three way tie for the conference champion between Florida State as well as those two teams. Abiding by tiebreaking protocol if that scenario were to occur, the Seminoles would earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

However, the Blue Devils weathered the storm at home, defeating the Tar Heels in five sets, thus crowning them the outright ACC Champions. FSU finished second.

The Seminoles will now await their fate in the NCAA Tournament when the 64 teams are unveiled on Sunday at 9:30 on ESPNU.

Redshirt Freshman middle blocker Sarah Burrington led the Seminole attack, with nine kills, while hitting .750 percent. She also added a block.

Junior setter Sarah Wickstrom tallied 18 assists, while redshirt junior Katie Mosher was under 12 digs.

In the first set, the Seminoles broke open the lead with six straight points, taking the lead 18-8 before winning it 25 -10.

The second proved to have a similar story as the Seminoles strung together a 10-2 run in order create a gap in the score, before FSU took the 2-0 lead 25-13.

Moving to the third, the Seminoles worked from behind before taking control in the middle of the set. FSU outscored Georgia Tech down the stretch 11-7, gaining their fifth-consecutive 3-0 sweep, 25-21.

“Being at home has given us the chance to regroup,” Poole said. “It gave us the chance to get some rest, take care of school work and hopefully we will go into the NCAA Tournament ready to play.”

The Seminoles finish 2013 conference play with their winning streak intact. FSU has now won 28-consecutive ACC contests while playing in Tully Gym.
