TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - For high school volleyball teams, Thursday was District Championship night. The good news, teams playing in District title games are both postseason bound, but a District Champion earns home court advantage for at least the first round of Regionals.
In Class 7A District 2, Lincoln and Leon squared off for the District title. Leon took the first two sets, but the Trojans answered in the third, winning 25 to 23. Leon jumped out to an early lead in the fourth, and didn't look back to win the District title in four sets over Lincoln.
In Class 5A, Wakulla took the District 2 title over Suwannee, winning in straight sets 25-13, 25-14, 25-14. Florida High hosted Marianna Thursday night for the Class 4A District 2 title, and the Seminoles dominated from the opening serve, winning in straight sets 25-12, 25-15, 25-13.
In Class 3A, John Paul II and Maclay faced each other for the District 1 crown. Maclay defeated the Panthers twice in the regular season, and won the first set 25-12. Maclay took the next two to win the District title in straight sets.
In Class 1A, Lafayette claimed their fifth straight District title on Thursday night with a four set win over Bell to win the District 5 Championship, and in District 2, the Sneads Pirates well on their way to their third straight State title, as they defeated Bethlehem in three sets.
