TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida State volleyball team took down the TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 3rd) in the final match of the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational. The Seminoles went 2-1 in its home tournament, taking down UNC Asheville and TCU to earn second place in the tournament.

In the first set, the Seminoles’ offense came out swinging, hitting .519 through the set with 15 kills on 27 attacks and only one error. Both of the first two sets were dominated offensively by senior outside hitter Milica Kubura, who tallied six kills in each set.

As TCU’s offense began to click in the second set, it was a strong defensive effort from Florida State that helped the Seminoles win the set. With 28 digs – shared by eight different players – and three blocks in the set, the Seminoles held the Horned Frogs to a .151 hitting percentage.

When Kubura left the match with an injury, the FSU offense was able to keep up the momentum with a hitting percentage of .293 in the third set, and a strong defensive presence helped to keep the set close. TCU was able to get a lead on Florida State, fighting back defensively and outhitting the Seminoles to take the set.

The Seminoles finished it off by putting pressure on the net in the fourth set, hitting .393 with three team blocks. While the Horned Frogs were able to hold the Seminoles at match point for multiple points toward the end, Florida State was able to win 25-21 and take the match 3-1.

Florida State volleyball will now look forward to its next opponent, the Tennessee Volunteers. FSU will host the FSU-FAMU Classic on Sept. 8th and 9th, taking on Tennessee at Tully Gym on Friday, Sept. 8th and hosting the Arizona Wildcats at the Al Lawson Center on FAMU’s campus.
