TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida State football team kicked off the 2016 season on Tuesday as they took the field for their first practice of fall camp.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher addressed the media before practice number one, addressing everything from a potential quarterback battle, to Dalvin Cook's leadership, to the Showtime cameras and microphones that are documenting the season.
Fisher is entering his seventh year as head coach, and on Tuesday, he took some time to reflect on the past seven years, but notes there's still a lot more to accomplish.
"We're putting ourselves in a position to be successful and have a chance to be successful," he said. "We have to keep doing the little things that make us successful, but very excited about this team. Very excited about this season coming up. I thought we went through a tremendous, tremendous spring. Loved the summer. Vic, and our guys, and even our players, said this is the best summer that we've had. I know coaches always say that every year, but it's been a good summer."
One of the biggest questions heading into camp is who will come out on top in the quarterback battle. Sean Maguire was injured during the spring, and Deondre Francois impressed during the Garnet and Gold game.
Fisher reiterated that every position is open, and is excited to see the competition during camp. As far as naming a starter? He said it'll happen when it happens.
"You can't speed that process up, and you can't slow it down," he said. "The process is what it is. I wish there was a magical ball I could sit and say at any position. You can't say, you don't know. You really don't. You can't make those processes go any faster. You have to let their development happen."
Florida State opens up the 2016 season in Orlando against Ole Miss September 5th.
