Valwood Names New Head Football Coach

HAHIRA, Ga. – Valwood Defensive Coordinator Justin Henderson, will be the new head coach of the State Champion Valiant Football Team.

Athletic Director, Brett Martin stated, “Losing a coach the caliber of Ashley Henderson is never a good thing, but we find ourselves in the best possible situation with Justin Henderson taking over as our head football coach at Valwood. Justin brings years of experience as a position coach and a coordinator on both the public and private school levels, and I have no doubt he will work extremely hard to insure that the Valwood football program continues to compete at the highest level. Justin taking the reins helps us to achieve the smoothest transition possible for our players, parents, boosters and fans.”

Henderson just completed his fourth season as the Valwood Defensive Coordinator, after an eleven year coaching career at Valdosta High School where he was the Varsity defensive line coach and the head ninth grade football coach.

“Being the head coach is obviously exciting. I started coaching at Valdosta High School in 2003 as a community coach at the ninth grade level. At the time, I never envisioned being a head coach, so this is sort of surreal. The challenge here will be to keep our feet on the gas and continue the winning tradition,” stated Henderson.

As a player, Henderson was a member of the 1998 Valdosta Wildcat state championship team his junior year and was a team captain his senior season.

A native of Valdosta, Georgia, Henderson received his BA in Mathematics from Valdosta State University (2006), his Master’s in Education from the University of Phoenix (2008) and his Education Specialist in Teaching and Learning degree from Valdosta State University (2010). He is married to the former Jen Hyland of Woodstock, Georgia. The couple are proud parents of daughter Jayce (3) and son Justin Jr. (JJ) (15 months).
