VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State junior pitcher Mitchell Cody has been named the Gulf South Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Cody earned the honor, the first of his career, after turning in a dominating performance against Paine on Saturday. The St. Augustine, Fla. native pitched 6.2 innings and allowed just one hit, an infield single in the third inning, and a walk in the fifth inning. He did not allow either base runner past first base and faced just one batter over the minimum as he started a double play to retire the runner in the fifth inning. Of the 20 outs he recorded in the game, 10 came via strikeout. His performance led VSU to a 15-0 victory.
On the year, Cody has a 1-0 record and a 1.69 earned run average as he has allowed just two runs in 10.2 innings pitched.
