VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdsota State Blazers kick off the 2015 season when they travel to Albany State. Getting the nod at quarterback for week one? EJ Hilliard, a senior transfer from Florida International University, who played in 22 games and started eight over three seasons for the Golden Panthers.
Hilliard said he's excited to spend his final season of eligibility at a school with a lot of promise for the season, and while he didn't shine too much in the spring, his command and understanding of the offense this fall has set him apart from the rest.
"He was just pretty quiet and just soaking things in," said quarterbacks coach Justin Roper of when Hilliard first arrived on campus. "This fall, he worked hard over the summer and this fall he came in really ready. He understood what he was doing and now he can take more control and push other people around him."
"I came here for one reason and one reason only, to win a National Championship and to be the best Division II school in the country," said Hilliard. That's what we came for, that's the goal, and that's the goal I think my teammates have in mind so that's what we have to accomplish."
The Blazers and Albandy State kick off Saturday at 7:00.
