ROME, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta State Blazers entered Thursday's match-up with Shorter 1-2 in Gulf South Conference play, and towards the bottom of the rankings with just four games left on their Conference slate.
The match-up, slow to start, with just three points scored in the first half, a field goal by Blazer kicker Gavin Wilson. A Dallas Baldner two yard touchdown catch made it 13-0 with 9:11 to go until halftime.
Shorter scored the next ten points, capped off by a 25 yard field goal to make it 13-10 at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Blazers struck early in the fourth quarter, when Stephen Denmark hauled in a pass to put Valdosta State up 20-10.
Shorter would get within four thanks to a Devante James 89 yard run, but that's as close as they would get. The Blazers kicked a field goal, and then O'Neal took a hand-off 94 yards to ice it, 37-22.
Valdosta State returns to action Saturday, October 31st when they host West Alabama.
