VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - After back to back wins on the road, the Valdosta State Blazers had a week to get acclimated to life at home, and gear up for their home opener this Saturday against Cumberland.
The Blazers were slow to start in their last win, but scored 31 unanswered against Winston Salem State to cap off a 31-3 win and improve to 2-0 on the year. That hard nosed mentality not surprising to head coach David Dead, who says they recruit speed, and says it's showed in their first two ball games with their quick defense.
He said if Valdosta State needs something to work on, it's their offense, as they're still looking for an identity on the football field.
"We need to get a little more toughness up front," he said on Monday. "We need to be able to make plays from our wideout position, and I think through this off week we've really done that. We've done a good job of understanding the things we need to improve on and we've had a good week of practice. We had a good Sunday practice leading in to today."
The Blazers match-up against Cumberland is slated for 4:00 on Saturday.
